Zoom in on Self-Love, Mic is On?

I am an elder millenial. 80’s baby. New to TikTok, fond of Rick Rock.

In high school, disgusted with my appearance, I blacked out my picture in the expensive yearbook my mom purchased as soon as I got my hands on it. Needless to say, I was ashamed of my (non-white) features and had low-self esteem. Mirrors were no good friends either.

This continued into adulthood as I dodged quickly out of pictures. I do have some great haircut memories though thankfully to my friends. Then the internet became a hit, cell phones were a necessity and I had a Myspace account. My first experience with social media was that of virtual diary sharing music and all types of feelings. At some point, I started to pull back as I noticed things I didn’t like in others’ posts and mine. No prob: back to hiding.

Fast forward and here I am working from home, pandemically isolated.

Now, every day it is an experiment redesigning my relationship with my self; starting with seeing my self on my webcam. I am looking at my lil’ image and hearing my lil’ voice. I am learning to see myself in all forms; my worry face along with my happy face, all multiple times a day. And you know what? It’s actually not half bad. I see a reflection of what I have refused to notice for yeeears. I’ve missed out on truly seeing whats going on within me + seeing my big-laugh.

So I’m publically claiming it. This is my point in my life where I am ready to zoom in, pun intended, yes, thank you. I am ready to get serious about loving what I look like. In the training process of professioanal coach training, I have been learning how to coach myself. (bonus) I also learned I believe confidence can be cultivated by caring. I want to be proud of myself, be love, and show up to share authentically.

Wanna join me?

  1. See yourself on camera. Virtual meeting options galore.
  2. Make and watch a video of yourself sharing something like appreciation, or even a dance move. Even if for no one else to see.
  3. Get in a silly photo or video when you are with friends/family/coworkers.
  4. Take a selfie in the sunshine for an au natural filter.

Bonus: Send a snap to a friend and say hello!
