What Kind of Coach Are You?

If you embrace it, the process of coach training involves a real cavity search of your soul, let me tell you. I have always wondered, why I am here? And now I am welcoming: Who do I think I am trying to coach others? And who do I want to work with? From this introspection, I found some strong feelings. Oh and full disclosure, I am a trained professional coach and untamed millennial.

Think of me as your partfrientor: 1/3 partner + 1/3 friend + 1/3 mentor.

Let’s start with part, or partner. When I think of this role, its someone who shows up and invests equitably. A dream teammate per say, playing side by side, in it to win it. The necessary level of commitment is high, and so must be the support. A level somewhere between best friend commitment and spouse/kid commitment. Along with my new coaching tools gained, I’ll bring attention, humble inquiry, deep listening and earnest honesty. And since we are being honest, the sustainability of my career depends on successful coaching partnerships. We both all in. Its (100%) Me+ (100%) You = 200% Coaching Partnership.

Now, frien or friend. Yes, there are clear boundaries and barriers in coaching. We agree to respect our roles and honor a professional relationship at all times. AND-friendship, trust and playfulness are present at the core of my how and why I show up with empathy. We celebrate together, visit new places together, and most certainly will be shopping together! I get to highlight new looks while you try on what fits. Emotional releases are totally welcome as we co-create a safe place to land. I will share real talk and space to process because I truly GAF (read:care). As a faithful wing-person, I got your back and front at times.

We end with tor, for mentor. Placed last on purpose, this a final ingredient for all-access care. As someone who wants the best for you, that means opening up avenues for appropriate assistance as needed. Please know I don’t have answers and I leave out advice. I bring in questions and reflections to develop your connection to choice and clarity. I will refer, not defer for additional support. Step by step, we explore, and may even tag team an expert in. Experts and coaches co-exist. Holistic well-being deserves inclusive resources, periodt.

In a nutshell, you get my undivided attention and I bring the best intentions. The only catch is this ain’t no solo and I was born in Texas. Ready to two-step?
